When you crave for a tastier meal and someone just gives you a yummy, deep fried fritter, what can be a better way to fulfill your cravings..Here I have a similar kind of fritter, a mirchi vada, from the land of deserts, Rajasthan, India.
This mirchi vada is a popular fried snack in Rajasthan and is made up of potato stuffed chilies covered with besan coating.
I have added a crunchy twist to it by coating it with another famous ingredient from Rajasthan, Papad.
This dish is tasty and can be prepared within a duration of 15 minutes..Do try this one at home to pamper your taste buds.
Ingredients:
Mirchi - big ones ( bhavnagri ones)- 250 gms ( 15 in number)
potatoes- 6 medium sized - boiled and mashed
garam masala- 1/4 tsp
chat masala- 1 tsp
chole masala- 1 tsp
sugar 1 tsp
green chili paste- 1 tbsp
crushed dry pudina or fresh pudina - 10-12 leaves
salt- as per taste
besan- 1 cup
sooji- 2 tbsp
ajwain- 1 tsp
oil- 1 tsp
lemon juice- 1/2 tsp
cooking soda- 1 pinch
water- as per requirement
crushed papad- 10-12
oil- for frying
Procedure:
Take the cleaned bhavnagari mirchis. Cut these from midle so that they form a slot to stuff the potato mixture. Deseed these mirchis.
To make the potato mixture, take the potatoes. Add sugar, garam masala, chat masala, chole masala, and green chili paste. Add salt and lemon juice to add the tangy flavor.
Add crushed pudina and salt.
Give it a mix and keep aside.
Now, stuff all the chilies with the prepared mixture.
Stuffed chilies are ready.
To make a batter, take the besan. Add the sooji to it. Add salt, cooking soda and ajwain to it.
Add water and make a batter of consistency which could coat the mirchi nicely.
Crush the papads to small , fine pieces.
Now, Coat the mirchi with batter and roll it once in the crushed papad.
Deep fry it in medium heated oil. Cook till golden brown from all sides.
Serve hot with chutney and ketchup. Mirchi vadas are ready within no time :)
